We are seeking an experienced Highway Maintenance Foreman. Under the direction of the Superintendent, you will be responsible for the day-to-day direction and supervision of the highway maintenance yard(s) and the crews operating from those yards to carry out summer/winter highway maintenance work and/or a variety of other highway maintenance and construction activities.

You will require a good understanding of our Environmental, Health & Safety Program, the standard specifications in the applicable Highway Maintenance Contract, Alberta Transportation Performance Measures Guidelines, and the expected response times to the ever-changing road conditions within your area.

As the Highway Maintenance Foreman, you are required to work independently.

Generally, your responsibilities will include (but are not limited to): organizing highway maintenance and other project work, scheduling personnel in accordance with daily, weekly, monthly and annual work schedules; monitoring and assessing employee performance in relation to corporate policies, highway maintenance contract specifications, our Memorandum of Understanding; instructing employees on safe and environmentally sound work procedures/practices; ensuring our Environmental, Health & Safety Program is properly applied; supervising a variety of highway maintenance activities (summer/winter); submitting daily AMA Road Reports on-time; approving/submitting daily work reports and employee time to the administration office.

A high degree of communication ability is essential, as you will be required to maintain a “Personal Daily Log”, complete necessary reports / inspections / investigations, and maintain concise records.

You will be required to interact, on a daily basis, with representatives of Alberta Transportation (our Partners) and with members of the general public. A positive and cooperative approach to problem solving and community relations is an important and necessary aspect to this position.

You will be expected to expedite emergency highway maintenance work at any time it is required. You may often have to work outside the standard workday or workweek and in a variety of different weather conditions, especially during the winter season when your availability will be critical on a 24/7 basis.
